° Police inspector, brother arrested
A Senior Police officer attached to Mobile Police Force (MPF)12 ,Niger State, Isah Abdullahi (aka Kunkuri) has committed suicide after he was arrested for alleged arms supply to bandits in the state.
DSP Abdullahi, an armourer was alleged to have shot himself with a service pistol.
Abdullahi, until his death was the head of the armoury of the unit at B Division of the state police command, Paikoro road, Minna.
Trouble started for the late DSP when the team of detective from Abuja came to his unit for annual routine auditing of arms and ammunition,when it was discovered that catches of ammunition were either missing or could not be accounted for.
The auditors were further alarmed by the discovery from preliminary findings that 13 AK-47 riffles and over 2000 ammunition were missing.
It was gathered the armoury played host to a number of different categories of weapons,but only the section of the AK 47 has been audited before the tragic incident .
Further investigation led to the arrest of Inspector John Moses,attached to the Niger State Government House, Minna, who allegedly confessed during interrogation that the late DSP, supplied him with arms and ammunition for onward delivery to bandits and other criminal elements in Erena community, Shiroro Local Government of the state.
He disclosed further,that the arms and ammunition were subsequently sold to the bandits through his brother, an indigene of the area, who is also an informant to criminals.
It was gatherd that operatives from the office of the National Security Adviser had earlier swooped on Minna and took away the suspects to Abuja for further investigation.
DSP Isah was later brought from Abuja and taken to the armoury for physical auditing of arms and ammunition in the armoury.
A senior police officer told our correspondent that It was in the process that DSP Isah smartly grabbed one the pistols in the armoury and shot himself in the head, and died instantly.
“He could not be handcuffed since the armoury is electronically controlled and only the DSP had the mechanism to open it, this provided him the opportunity to reach out to the pistol before shooting himself.
Meanwhile it was learnt that the officers,wvho accompanied the deceased to the armoury were immediately arrested and are facing Orderly Room Trial for alleged ” negligence and murder.’
Also, four police officers attached to the late DSP, have been arrested and are equally undergoing interrogation.
A special team from the office of the NSA is on 24 hours guard on the armoury, pending when a solution would be found to access the armoury.
Niger State Commissioner of Police ,Adamu Elleman confirmed the story, saying that Inspector John Moses is still facing investigations in the office of the NSO ,Abuja.
Elleman recounting how the DSP killed himself, said the deceased, “smartly brought out a pistol and shot himself. The incident occurred, when he started bringing out boxes that supposed to contain ammunition, but they were all empty”
The police boss, however, said an autopsy would be carried out on the deceased to determine the actual cause of death
Also, Niger State police public relations officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun,who gave a graphic accountof how the incidentoccurred, said ,”on December 16, 2025, at about 2.30pm, DSP Abdullahi Isah,attached to Mopol 12 Minna, was initially arrested on December 15, for being suspected to be involved in illegal dealings of ammunition.
“He was subsequently taken to his office for a routine arms audit, and unfortunately, while the audit process was ongoing, the said officer shot himself in the head, with a pistol he picked within the office and died on the spot.
“Meanwhile, the policemen who were detailed along for the audit and investigation activities were arrested for negligence in the line of duty, to have allowed such a situation to occur” Wasiu however pointed out that further investigation is in progress .”
