About 34 innocent people have been reportedly killed on Wednesday by suspected Lakurawa terrorists who launched coordinated attacks on several rural villages in Kebbi State.
It was gathered that the attacks occurred in communities within Arewa Local Government of the state.
According to sources, the gunmen swept through villages in the remote border district, opening fire in what survivors described as highly organised and indiscriminate assaults.
Security sources said the attacks left 16 people dead in Mamunu, five in Awashaka, three in Masama, and two each in five other villages.
According to many reports on international media organizations, the violence forced residents to flee as the gunmen stormed homes and shot at civilians.
It was gathered that the security forces have since moved into the area to protect communities, assist survivors, and block the militants’ escape routes. Tracking operations are currently under way.
Efforts to get official reactions from security agencies and the government proved abortive.
