My command won’t tolerate criminal elements – Delta CP

Commissioner of Police Delta State Police Command, Aina Adesola has warned that he will not condone criminal activities in the state .
He said that his Command is committed to tackling violent and other crimes in the state.
CP Aina, however, appealed for the support and cooperation of members of the public with the police to achieve this.

The CP at a press briefing at the Command’s headquarters, on the Command’s achievements since his assumption of office as the 23rd Commissioner of Police, said that the Delta State Police Command, through the operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), led by ASP JuliusRobinson, recorded major operational successes against kidnapping, violent crimes, and illegal arms trafficking, resulting in the arrest of suspects and recovery of firearms, ammunition, and cash.

The CP said that acting on credible intelligence on the activities of a notorious inter-state kidnapping and armed robbery syndicate terrorizing parts of Delta, Bayelsa, and Rivers States, the Officer-in-Charge of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), Robinson, activated a series of sustained, intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling the criminal network.

He said that the operation recorded a major breakthrough on December 29, 2025, when the operatives extended investigations to Port Harcourt, Rivers State, leading to the arrest of one Abubakar Mohammed (male, adult).

“Following intensive interrogation, the suspect led operatives to a concealed bush location along Tobia village by the Amasoma area of Airport Road, Bayelsa State, where a cache of arms was unearthed. Recovered from the location while buried and carefully wrapped in a sack, were one AK-47 rifle, seventy-six rounds of live ammunition, two AK-47 magazines. The investigation further yielded additional successes at about 6.01p.m., on January 2, 2026, when the suspect again guided operatives to another hidden arms dump located between the Ughelli–Warri axis at Uyamuge forest, where one K2 rifle, forty-nine rounds of live ammunition, three K2 magazines, one pump-action gun, and thirty-two live cartridges. The suspect is in custody, and investigation is ongoing.”

In another development, the CP said that sequel to intelligence received by operatives of CP Special assignment team, the team on January 6, 2026 stormed Ohoror community along Ughelli Patani Road, where some suspected kidnappers were sighted. The suspects, according to him, upon sighting the police, opened fire, and in the ensuing gun duel, one of them was hit and sustained serious gunshot injuries.

“Upon searching the area, one K-2 rifle, two locally made guns, live ammunition and cartridges concealed in a bag were recovered. The injured suspect was taken to the hospital where he was confirmed dead by the doctor duty. Manhunt for the fleeing suspect is ongoing.”

Also, the new Delta State Police Command boss disclosed that operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), while acting on credible intelligence, successfully carried out an operation at about 7.15 p.m, on January 3, 2026 at the Ovieta street area of Ughelli town, leading to the arrest of three suspects involved in an illegal arms transaction.

He said the arrested suspects are Areuro Oke (male, 38 years), identified as the intended buyer of a pump-action gun; Onos Echabor (male, 47 years), identified as the middleman in the transaction; and Akpofure Emmanuel (male, 45 years).

Also, he disclosed that operatives of the Quick Response Squad (QRS), while acting on intelligence, stormed and raided a black spot located at New Road by Ewereto junction, Sapele, and Agofure Park in Effurun roundabout, Warri, Delta State, where some suspected drug barons were arrested.

He gave the suspects’ identity as Bemigho Omoghomi (m), a 28-year-old, Onoriode Samuel (m) 46-year-old, and two other suspects, adding that large quantities of illicit drugs were recovered from them, saying the suspects are in custody and the investigation was ongoing.

Again, while acting on credible intelligence, operatives of Area command Effurun, according to the police boss, stormed the shop of one Chioma Ada Ifuwe Wanogho along Sapele-Warri road and recovered forty-five wraps of weeds suspected to be loud, SK, and a bag of dry weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.

“Suspect who has been in the business for about four years was arrested and investigation is ongoing.

“The Delta State Police Command under my leadership reassures members of the public of our unwavering commitment to combating kidnapping, violent crime, proliferation of illegal firearms and other vices within the State. Members of the public are urged to continue to support the Police with timely, useful and credible information, while warning criminal elements that all forms of criminality will be met with decisive and lawful action. Parent are also advised to caution and monitor their wards, admonish and encourage them to stay away from crime.”
