The remaining eight Ghanaians rescued from the captivity of a transnational fraud syndicate in Ogun State have been handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service ( NIS) for proper profiling and immediate reunification with their families.
Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi in a statement, described the move by the CP Bode Ojajuni-led command as a reaffirmation of proactive strength and strategic coordination.
”This decisive action underscores a resounding commitment to intelligence-led policing, seamless inter-agency synergy, and the unwavering resolve of the command to protect victims, dismantle criminal networks, and ensure justice is decisively served,” Babaseyi said.
The Anti-kidnapping Unit of Ogun State Police Command, acting on actionable intelligence, on Monday, April 6, 2026, busted the syndicate’s hideout at Owode-Egba, and arrested two male members of the criminal gang, identified as Stephen Kwame and Abubakar Sulaimon.
In the said operation, nine Ghanaian nationals, held captive by the syndicate, were rescued unhurt, one of whom, 40-year-old Maclaud Owusu, the command said, had been reunited with his family, while it intensified efforts to reunite the remaining eight victims.
Prior to Police intervention, Owusu had been defrauded of Thirty-one Thousand Ghana Cedis (₵31,000) by the organized criminal syndicate that lures foreign nationals, particularly from Ghana, to Nigeria, under false promise of facilitating their travel to Europe.
”Upon arrival, the victims are deceived, confined, and their mobile phones are used to contact relatives and associates, to demand money under false pretences,” he said .
