The Delta State Police Command has foiled a suspected robbery operation in Agbor, Delta State.
One person has been arrested in connection with the robbery attempt; recovered weapons and other incriminating items from the suspect.
In a statement, Delta state police public relations officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the incident occurred in the early hours of April 4, 2026, at about 4:47 a.m., following a distress call from a resident of Full Current Compound in Alihame, Agbor.
The caller reported that a group of about eight armed men were attempting to break into the premises.
Acting swiftly, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Agbor Division mobilised the Anti-Crime Patrol team to the scene. Upon arrival, residents had already subdued one of the suspects after a struggle.
“The suspect, Emeka Ernest, 41, from Ukpo in Anambra State, sustained injuries during the confrontation and was taken into police custody.
“He was subsequently rushed to the General Hospital Agbor, where he is currently receiving treatment.
“A search conducted at the scene led to the recovery of one live cartridge from the suspect, while two expended cartridges, a battle axe, a red cloth suspected to have been used as a face mask, and a mobile phone were also recovered.
“In a follow-up operation on April 6, based on information obtained from the suspect, police operatives recovered a locally fabricated single-barrel gun hidden near the scene in Alihame.
“Police authorities said investigations are ongoing, with efforts being intensified to apprehend other members of the gang who remain at large.
” Commissioner of Police in the state, Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the prompt response of officers and the vigilance of residents, assuring the public of the command’s continued commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
“He also urged residents to remain alert and report suspicious activities to the police.”
