Prominent security security stakeholder Alhaji Akeem Osuolale has commended the police reform activities of Inspector General of the Nigeria Police Force ,Olatunji Disu
The businessman, particularly lauded the IGP for his approach to : the welfare of police officers ,response to security issues, commitment to disciplinary issues ,commitment to fair and balance promotion amongst others .
He noted that that the action of the IGP ,so far,is reminiscent of the early days of former IGP ,Tafa Balogun .
Osuolale ,while speaking with newsmen ,over the weekend in Lagos ,said:+” The new IGP ,Olatunji Disu has started very well .He started just like former IGP ,Tafa Balogun started.
” He has demonstrated that he is prepared for the job and he has hit the ground running in just a few weeks .
“Within the few days that he has spent ,one can see what has been missing in the police leadership for some years now .He has put the officers on their toes .Things are changing very fast .
” I am particularly impressed by his esponse to the bombing in Maiduguri . That has been missing from police leadership for some time .
“The visit to Maiduguri is not just a moral booster to the officers of Borno State Police Command but an indication that there is a new Sheriff in town at the police headquarters .
” Within just a few days ago,he has paid over N 2 billion to families and relatives of policemen, who lost their lives in active service .This is a way to encourage those still in service.
” He has called for a reduction in the number of Tactical Units by Zones,Commands,Areas and Division as a way of increasing the number of policemen at police stations all over Nigeria .
“Apart from having more officers available at police station, this new directive will curb the increasing bad image that is associated with this Tactical Squads everywhere .”
The businessman, therefore, charged the IGP to ensure that the right officers ,who will align with his vision are posted to the sensitive police formations in Nigeria .
He particularly urged the police boss to post an experienced and operational Commissioner of Police to Lagos State
He said ” Lagos needs a very experienced police commissioner ,who is well grounded in police operations and administration.”
