

A suspected leader of a notorious cult group, has been arrested by operatives of Delta State Police Command.
The suspect: Peter Onajite, 32, was intercepted on April 11, by detectives while on surveillance patrol at Orerokpe, Okpe Local Government.
In a statement yesterday,Delta state Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO),SP Bright Edafe, said that a search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of one locally made double pistol, two live cartridges, one expended cartridge, as well as sachets of suspected Tramadol tablets.
He said that during preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed to being the leader of Juris Confraternity.
“The suspect is currently in custody, while investigation is ongoing, Edafe added.
“In the samevein, on April 12, 2026, following a report of a suspected cult initiation involving one Chinedu Onyeama (now at large) and members of a cult group,Aiye, operatives attached to Ibusa Police station swiftly mobilised to Jordan Road, Ibusa.
Edafe said the operation led to the arrest of three suspects, including a female.
“A search conducted at the premises resulted in the recovery of one English-made Beretta pistol with one round of live ammunition, three battle axes, one hammer, one cutlass, and thirty-nine firelighters.
“The suspects are in custody, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect”, he said.
In his remarks, Delta State commissioner of Police , Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for their professionalism and prompt response.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and warned that the police would continue to clamp down on cult-related activities and other violent crimes.
