The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper linked to a syndicate that uses fake job advertisements to lure victims.

Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) rescued a male victim and arrested a 27-year-old suspect, Aniagboso Ugochukwu, on April 11, 2026.

The victim had been abducted after responding to a fraudulent online job offer and was forced to pay a ransom of ₦500,000 before his rescue.

Police said the same gang had earlier abducted another victim on April 1 and extorted ₦100,000 before releasing him.

According to Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, victims were directed to a meeting point at Eke Obinagu, Emene, and then transported to a hideout in Akpuoga Nike.

“They were threatened with iron objects and wooden planks while ransom was demanded from their families,” he said.

The suspect has reportedly confessed and remains in custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang.

Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, urged the public to exercise caution when engaging with online job offers and to verify their authenticity.
