The Katsina State Police Command has confirmed a bandits’ attack on Gurbi Village in Kankara Local Government, where 11 residents were killed and two others injured.

In a statement, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, said the attack occurred at about 2:40 p.m. on April 26, 2026.

“Suspected armed bandits attacked the village and fatally shot 11 persons, while two others sustained varying degrees of injuries before the arrival of security agencies,” he said.

Aliyu added that upon receiving a distress call, a joint security team comprising the police, military, and other agencies, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), mobilised to the scene, forcing the attackers to flee.

“Normalcy has been restored to the area. The injured victims have been evacuated to a nearby hospital, while the deceased have been released to their families for burial in line with Islamic rites,” he said.

He further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar Fage, has deployed additional tactical teams to prevent further attacks and directed intensified intelligence-led patrols in collaboration with other security agencies and community stakeholders.

The command also commiserated with the families of the victims and urged residents to remain calm and provide useful information to aid ongoing investigations.

Meanwhile, no fewer than seven persons were killed in an attack on Channel One, a border settlement in Ukemberagya/Tswarev Council Ward of Logo Local Government, Benue State.

The attack reportedly occurred in the early hours of April 27, 2026.

A community leader, Elder Joseph Anawa, confirmed the incident in Makurdi, stating that suspected Fulani marauders carried out the attack.

“Six people were reportedly killed, including Akor Gwakyaa, Msooter Gwakyaa, Aondoungwa Michael, Vershima Michael, Terna Michael, Msughter Terzungwe, and another whose name has not been identified,” he said.

He added that seven others sustained serious injuries and are receiving treatment at medical facilities in Anyiin town.

According to him, witnesses said the attackers arrived in large numbers on motorcycles and were heavily armed.

“It is alleged that the attackers are camped at Shaor, one of the deserted villages identified in previous intelligence reports as a base for marauders in Logo LG,” Anawa said.

He noted that residents of the affected and neighbouring communities have begun fleeing for fear of further attacks.

Anawa called on the government to intensify coordinated security operations, including joint inter-state efforts involving Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba states, to curb cross-border attacks.

Chairman of Logo LG, Clement Kav, also confirmed the incident, saying that seven persons were killed and four injured.

“They come, attack, and retreat to where they came from. I have briefed the Commissioner of Police and the Adviser on Homeland Security,” he said.

However, the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, said she had yet to receive details of the incident.
