The Delta State Police Command has arrested 11 suspected cultists and seized a cache of weapons in three separate intelligence-led operations across the state.
The operations were carried out in Asaba, Ughelli and Ethiope-West Local Government Area of Delta State.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the first operation was carried out on May 14, 2026, at about 11:09 a.m., when operatives of the Buffalo Patrol Team, acting on a distress call, stormed a suspected cultists’ hideout at Eagle Square along Okpanam Road, Asaba.
The raid led to the arrest of seven male suspects and two females. Recovered at the scene were a Beretta pistol, a battle axe and a cutlass. The suspects and exhibits were transferred to the Command Anti-Cult Unit for further investigation.
Earlier the same day, at about 9 a.m., operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol Team intercepted a Lexus Jeep with registration number KWL 139 CY during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Ughelli/Patani Road.
The vehicle, driven by one Felix Ike, was searched and an English-made pump-action gun and 40 rounds of live cartridges were recovered. Ike is currently in custody while investigation continues.
The third and perhaps most significant arrest came on May 15, 2026, when operatives of the Command Anti-Cult Unit, acting on credible intelligence, tracked down and arrested Christopher Ogidigbo, 28, of Ogharaefe Town, Ethiope-West Local Government Area, identified as a suspected kingpin of the dreaded Supreme Vikings Confraternity.
A locally-made revolver pistol was recovered from him, while investigators are working to unravel his possible involvement in other criminal activities.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for their professionalism and reiterated the Command’s zero-tolerance stance on cultism and illegal possession of firearms across the state.
