The Federal High Court, Kaduna, Kaduna State, on Wednesday adjourned ruling on the bail variation application filed by former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, in his ongoing trial before the court.
The court also ordered that the defendant be granted supervised access to medical treatment.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Okor Odey, said the case borders on a 10-count charge against El-Rufai and a co-defendant, Joel Adoga, over alleged conversion, possession of proceeds of corruption, and money laundering offences under the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
According to the Commission, both defendants have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The ICPC said that at Wednesday’s proceedings, the matter came up for hearing of El-Rufai’s application seeking variation of the bail conditions earlier granted by the court.
The Commission noted that while defence counsel, led by Oluwole Olaniyan (SAN), urged the court to relax the bail terms, the prosecution counsel, Dr. Agada Akogwu, opposed the application and urged the court to maintain the existing conditions.
“At the previous sitting, the court had admitted Mallam El-Rufai to bail in the sum of ₦200 million and two sureties in like sum, while the administrative bail granted to the second defendant, Joel Adoga, was adopted by the court.
“Wednesday’s proceedings came up for the hearing of El-Rufai’s motion seeking variation of the bail conditions earlier granted by the court.
“At the proceedings, Dr. Agada Akogwu appeared for the prosecution, while Oluwole Olaniyan (SAN) led a team of defence counsel that adopted the motion for variation of bail conditions, while the prosecution counsel adopted a counter-affidavit in opposition to the application.
“Following arguments from both sides, the court adjourned the matter to Thursday, May 7, 2026, for ruling.
“In the course of proceedings, the defence counsel also made a compassionate plea urging the court to direct the Commission to allow the defendant access to medical treatment, specifically for dental and eye care, at designated facilities in Abuja.
“Ruling on this application, the court granted the request and directed the ICPC to convey Mallam El-Rufai, under strict supervision, to medical facilities of his choice, including Mile Dental Clinic and Skipper Eye-Q Hospital, Abuja, whenever the need arises, and to return him to custody immediately after such treatment.
“The court emphasised that all such movements shall remain under the strict supervision of the ICPC.
“The ICPC remains committed to complying fully with the orders of the court while ensuring lawful custody of the defendant pending the fulfilment of bail conditions.
“The ICPC reiterates its dedication to due process and assures the public that the prosecution of the case is being conducted diligently and in accordance with the law.”
The Commission said further updates will be communicated as proceedings continue.
