Political tension is mounting in Ogun State as a leading aspirant for the Ogun Central Senatorial seat, Otunba Muraina Olatunji Banjoko, popularly known as Threeco, has strongly denied claims that he stepped down for former governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.
The denial follows reports that emerged after a stakeholders’ meeting held in Abeokuta, where Amosun allegedly listed Threeco and others as aspirants who had agreed to support his ambition.
But in a swift reaction, Threeco dismissed the claim as false and misleading.
“We were all invited to the Ogun Central Senatorial Stakeholders’ Meeting to discuss the possibility of adopting a consensus candidate. At no point did I agree to step down for anyone,” he said.
He further revealed that he had not had any recent political discussion with Amosun, noting that their last interaction dated back to July 2025.
The aspirant insisted that no official decision has been taken by the party leadership regarding the emergence of a candidate.
“No position has been adopted yet. We are awaiting further communication from the party,” he added.
Threeco also alleged that Amosun had previously hinted that his return to the Senate would depend on assurances of securing a top position in the National Assembly.
Addressing his supporters, he urged them to disregard rumours of his withdrawal from the race, stressing that such a decision cannot be taken unilaterally.
“Stepping down is not something I can do without wide consultations with my supporters who have stood by me throughout this process,” he said.
He reaffirmed his loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and pledged to abide by the party’s guidelines and final decision.
“The party is supreme. I will respect its rules and directives,” he stated.
Observers say the development may signal an intense battle ahead as political gladiators jostle for the coveted Ogun Central ticket.
